Going to be in Longboat Key Florida in the last week of Feb. I have a 21ft. center console with t-top and outriggers. What kind of fishing is in season? Not interested in getting offshore more than 10 or 15 miles. Any good spots or reefs? Any good freshwater holes that is not to shallow, I need 24 inches draft.

Re: Sarasota/Longboat Key fishing February

I lived on siesta key for a winter when I worked in sarasota, for my money the fishing stinks compared to cape cod. We had luck with sea trout , went out deep sea for groupers one day but got skunked.
Boca raton is known for tarpon and snook and its not too far ...but I think you'd have to know the tricks.
I spent more time chasing freshwater largemouth.
I guess I am too spoiled by the striped bass around cape cod.

here's a reef list from FWC....http://www.myfwc.com/docs/Conservation/REEFS.pdf

And I would not judge fishing down here because someone who is not from here and who didn't know the waters or techniques got skunked, I catch nice fish every trip although I'm sure if I went up north I wouldn't catch anything.
