We just bought a beautiful country home right on the San Gabriel River. The only way we are going to be able to get TV reception is to get Satellite. Ive have always been a city boy and have had cable TV. In my research it seems the two big guns in Satellite are Dish Network and DirectTV. Either one is available in my area and I was wondering if any of you have hand experience with either one. Thanx for any and all input.

I have Dish Network and had Direct TV before that. They are both equally good as far as programming and such. When I had Direct TV I only needed it on one tv. When the need came for two additional tv's, Direct TV couldn't beat Dish Netork's price on a 4 tv setup. SO...I went with Dish network. I've only had one problem with Dish network and their customer support person I talked to was very knowlegable and talked me through the fix no problem.

I've had both, Dish seemed more willing to keep their customers.
But for Quality and reliability, both systems work well. If this is just your hideaway, go with whatever is cheaper,,, if your moving to this new home, the new Dishnetwork multiroom setup would be good.

If you're an NFL football junkie, DirecTV is the way to go. Otherwise, it's pretty much a tossup.

I have DirecTV. I like it. No problems. Customer Service is friendly and answer quickly.

I think you'll find that the picture quality with any satellite TV is MUCH better than your old cable system.

Let us know what you decide.

I have Dish now had direct tv they are about the same Dish costs less. Both put the programming that is wanted by most in the upper $ package. Both have rain fade. Dish charges $5.00 a month if it's not hooked to a good phone line. Both have to many music channels, both have to many channels that you will not watch. The dish 2 room unit is 1 unit (has a antena on it) with cable to run from it to the second unit and 2 remotes one green tab and one blue tab. DVR is nice and only $5.00 a month more. Ok I get mine free as my son-in-law works in there Tulsa call center!

Nevr had DISH so I do not have any input there.

Have had DIRECTV since 1997. Good Stuff. Only time signal is an issue is real heavy wet snow covering the dish. A simple wipe off is all thats needed. Or REAL heavy pea green thunder storm clowds will temporarily block signal.

An aside, I take my receiver upnorth to shack on occasion when I do not wish to watch local network tv there (my kids like the cartoon channels). I keep a dish up there and "C" clamp it outside the shack to a deck railing.

And I can still order pay per view upnorth as the purchase is stored on internal memory and downloaded upon return home at some point after reconnecting phone line.

Good Stuff.

for the record I had one of the original rca direct tv systems and it was great....now to 2004

We got direct tv this spring and have had problems from day 1 with equipment(philips) and customer service and tech support are slow. it took me an hour monday to get a replacement receiver working on the phone with tech support. The installer sucked should have done it my self he didn't even ground the dish. also if i have to call again and they tell me to unplug the receiver i'm gonna plug it back in their....well never mind. last time i called the guy had the guts to ask me if i would be intrested in signing up for another year of programing, I about flipped on him

super64, ???
Rupert Murdoch's Sky Global Networks merged with Directv, which was owned by Hughes Electronics, a subsidiary of General Motors.

The proposed merger of Dishnetwork (owned by echostar) and Directv was blocked last year.
