Hey Fisherguy123 - Awesome save there guys!! I'm real surprised Mama even let you near her baby. She could have done a number on ya'll herself never mind oncoming traffic. How large are the holes in the grate of that bridge that a hoof could completely get through?! Amazing that calves legs didn't break. Good job!!

Re: we saved a baby moose recently

actually this is the second calf .....the other was about 10 years ago. I`m a LEO andgot a call about a traffic jam on the Trans Canada highway . We got out there and it was a calf younger than this one standing in the middle of the road in a 100kph zone causing all the fuss. The cow was nowhere to be seen so we activated our emergency lights and stopped all the traffic and everytime I took the little critter to the side of the road it followed me back up ,like thinking I was mommy. So we had to do something......I got in the back seat of the car and put the calf on my lap with his head out the window ....we hightailed it for the Wildlife office and those guys took it by helecopter to the area and inserted it close to a cow who already had a calf. They said it was a good chance she would adopt it after a few hours. Well you should have seen the looks we got with this moose sticking his head out the window....luckily it never had a crap in the car...that could have been messy....its fur was so soft and it never struggled at all. The wildlife guys said it was only a couple days old.......I still wonder if it was adopted ok....lets say it was !!!

That's hysterical. My kid is laughing her butt of atm...lol.

You live/work in a beautiful area. I love Canada and have hunted and fished in New Brunswick back in the early 90's quite a few times. I went on a guided bow hunting in trip to New Brunswick in 1993. It was the last week prior to moose hunting season and the moose where already in rut and brother I'm telling ya... talk about crapping your pants!

I had a bull moose with a rack the size of a Volkswagon atop its head get my scent while I was in my treestand. You should have seen this guy tearing it up! He was PISSED I was in his territory boy... He was uprooting saplings with that rack that where not much smaller than the tree my stand was in!! Man wish I had a camera phone that day. I definitely changed my underware that night when I returned to camp.

Moose: because 10,000 wolves can't be wrong :D

You're obviously a pro, with mama standing that close by. I've got some friends in Alaska, and it's amazing how much damage a cow can do. Even fish and game up there picks their battles against a cow defending her calf. Great save.

I have helped/saved some wildlife myself from roads and fences, and think its great you get paid to do it sometimes along with the satisfaction.A friend who moved to Alaska 2 yrs. ago told me a large cow moose was chasing him into his cabin a while back while he waited to get his resident license. It would not let him in the back yard for weeks and he never saw a youngster. He said it was quite exciteing as the large moose approached him, apparently unimpressed by his many attempts to scare it away!!:eek:
