I think about this a lot. If you take a read of the Federalist Papers, or some other period document(s), you can see how much language has changed from then to when you started learning to read and write. "It's just the way it is", to use a well worn one. With that said, I also struggle with the whole process, and I tend to use proper writing even when texting. It's my meager attempt to try and delay the inevitable. But, of course, I am not consistent as I use a lotta slang hangin' here. So chill bro. Luv ya. All good :facepalm:

It's funny how much I can identify with that: I read CONSTANTLY, and much of it is period documents as well. Hence, I have a pretty solid stock of vocabulary. I also speak in public rather regularly (in a few different formats), and therefore have to be able to speak rather clearly as well (not to mention keeping an audience from going to sleep).I think about this a lot. I have another twist as well, I hang out regularly with Brits and Aussies and I use a mish mash of daily vocabulary that no one understands but me :facepalm: Good on ya mate, Sayonara senor, Cheers!
