I've got the Welly advertised for sale; looking to downsize. I get a call from a guy who says he's not a broker; he is basically a middleman, matches buyers and sellers, helps with the financing before and transportation after the sale.
Sounds like a total scam to me. Told him I'd maybe get back with him in a few weeks if the prospective buyers I have now don't produce a sale.
Just wondering what the difference is between what he says he does, and what a broker does. Sounds the same to me.

Yes, as soon as you place an ad the scammers come calling. A Broker is a middleman . . . they match buyers with sellers and help them with things such as financing . . .

Just one more person trying to get their hands in your pockets. You don't need him. Watch out though it's not a sellers market today. Savy buyers won't pay you what your expecting so be prepared to look reality in the face. Entertain as many offers as you can so you get the most the market will bring.

These third party brokers know that and are preying on worn out sellers or those that have a greater financial need and need to turn the sale quickly.

That said, a good broker can take a lot of the hassel out of selling your boat. Contact one directly if that's the way you decide you want to go.

I would at least listen to what he has to say. A friend of mine got an similar offer from a guy buying boats locally then selling them overseas. He gave full asking price and paid cash. He sent a guy out a week later to pick up the boat and drop it off at the docks in Baltimore.

He claims to get paid by the buyer, I get full asking price. The bank name he rattled off sounded very fishy and is what raised a red flag.
I'm in no hurry to sell, owe nothing on it; and will continue to enjoy it until I sell.

Well, I'm not a boat owner, just a guy with the title to a boat who operates it when time allows.

Here's an option for you, since most boaters get 2'itis, try advertising for a trade with someone with a smaller boat.

I say stay away from these "brokers".
While they do have a place, I think it is on high dollar items.

1. Am ok with the price and the condition, am buying it for my personal
use because i?ll be coming home soon from our site as am into Forest
management and presently in the Forest. i won?t be able to come for
the inspection due to the nature of my work and i would have love to
call in personally but we have call restriction here due to rules
given to us and am only having chance to email you when am on my PC
doing some research. i will be paying you through PayPal, pls get back
to me with your PayPal details so i can proceed with the payment and
once payment has been made i have a pickup agent who will come to pick
it up and deliver it to my place. kindly end auction on site.

Get back with this.

2. Thanks for the reply, i am a marine technician and am always busy at
sea thats why l wont be able to check the item due to the nature of my
work so whats the present condition, because am buying this for my son
as a surprise gift so am willing to offer you the amount you required.
I can only pay through PayPal at the moment as i don't have access to
my bank account online(i don't have internet banking with it), but i
have it attached to my PayPal account, and this is why i insisted on
using PayPal to pay, all i will need is your PayPal email address to
pay for the item, and if you don't have a PayPal account yet, you can
set one up at www.paypal.com it cant take you less than 3mins to do
that, i will be expecting your PayPal email so l can pay. I have a
pick up agent that will come for the pick up after payment has been
sorted. l will be waiting for your reply asap
