If you get a call from someone claiming to be a telephone repairman and is checking lines , donot press 9 and 0 and # for them, that gives them access to put long distance calls thru your line . Pretty popular with prisoners from jails and prisons to do this . Just a warning . Pass this along to everybody you know, all the phone companys agree that this is a scam that is going on. Dennis

Re: Scam

Hi cooter

It always the "pass it along to everyone you know", that raised my flags. Did you receive this information as an email and was this phrase in it? If so, these types of emails can create their own problems as well-meaning people endlessly forward them, clogging mail systems.

This info qualifies as an urban legend, since it is technically possible, but only if use a phone system that requires a "9" to get an outside line. This would not work on a resedential phone.

Check here a lot on these types of issues.
Snopes

Thanks for the heads-up though.

Marty
