 Guys, Ive been going through power head rebuild for bout 6 mos now.
112 johnson spl. I did alot of work, like pulling power head, rebuilding carbs, changing t-stats, But contracted out machine work and rebuild of motor. Saved alot of money, but exploratory trips to lake this past month had me wondering bout my decisions. 1st trip, failed starter. Took about 1 week, to double and triple check wiring and attempt to get rebuild, but gave up and bout new one. Well new starter solved that problem. Next trip to lake, had coil and connection problems. Motor sounds great on driveway, but in water, no plane and weak. found out running on 3 cylinders. fixed, new coil, and wires. Todays trip, starts, runs good, but on ititial take off, would vibrate real bad. once on plane, it would smooth out. AND I WAS HAPPY!!
Goin bout 35-40mph, 52-5500 rpm, was ok to me, I can start going fishing again. just that initial vibration had me a little worried. Ok,, so on the trailer I notice prop has only 3 blades and is a 4 blade comp prop. AHHH HAAA!!! Maybe thats my trouble???? Never thought I'd be so happy to see a broken prop!! Thanks to everyone who replied and helped! Time to buy new prop and go fishing! Joe

Re: scary situation

Those comp props are good as a spare only. The blades crack and fall off too often. They flex so much under torque, that the prop blade fractures.
