Anyone know of free/cheap software to construct wiring schematics? Looking to re-wire over the winter and want to get a leg up ... ;)

Re: Schematics Software

Use any drawing (graphics) program. You don't a "electrical" software package for this. If you look at the stickies at the very top of this forum you will see one titled "Generic Boat Wiring Diagram". I created that drawing in Microsoft PowerPoint. I used another capture program called Full Shot to grab a copy of the image, saved it as a .JPG and uploaded to Photobucket. The vast majority of the diagrams you see in my posts are done that way. FullShot, SnagIt and a host of other screen capture programs let you capture virtually anything on the screen and then plop it into a diagram you are creating.

I was going to say power point... of course thats not free unless you already have it.

try paint.net too... that is the best free photo editing software I've ever seen... you could use it to draw diagrams and much much more.

I use Visio for simple diagrams. You can get student versions for $100.
