I heard something about this a day or two ago, but missed nearly all of the story.

The link is not working.

I have not said anything on this as of yet...at least until we hear more about what is or has been going on.

copy/paste works.

"Scientists and economists have been offered $10,000 each by a lobby group funded by one of the world's largest oil companies to undermine a major climate change report due to be published today."

"Letters sent by the American Enterprise Institute (AEI), an ExxonMobil-funded thinktank with close links to the Bush administration, offered the payments for articles that emphasise the shortcomings of a report from the UN's Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC)."

The letters, sent to scientists in Britain, the US and elsewhere, attack the UN's panel as "resistant to reasonable criticism and dissent and prone to summary conclusions that are poorly supported by the analytical work" and ask for essays that "thoughtfully explore the limitations of climate model outputs".

Yeah, the Guardian.
A little higher up the food chain than "The Onion", but written and edited by Al Gore clones.

TAke a look at any of their articles, you will see.

The Guardian is one of the most venerable and conservative british newspapers that you can find.
That at least is my opinion.In the eyes of most fascists,it is probably perceived as a left wing paper.

Editorial articles in The Guardian are generally in sympathy with the liberal to left-wing ends of the political spectrum. This is reflected in the paper's readership: a MORI Poll taken between April-June 2000 showed that 80% of Guardian readers were Labour Party voters (cited in International Socialism Spring 2003, ISBN 1-898876-97-5); according to another MORI poll taken in 2004, 44% of Guardian readers vote Labour and 37% vote Liberal Democrat[

Indeed, many of its editorials are politically colored. Its news articles however,are void of political opinion and deal with news only.This is what makes it a conservative paper and it is the reason why I took out a subscription years ago and still have it.

During the Afghanistan and Iraq wars The Guardian attracted a significant proportion of anti-war readers as one of the mass-media media outlets most critical of UK and USA military initiatives.

Be real Rolmops, just like every other newspaper the way they present the news is directly influenced by the stand they take in editorials.... it's the owners own philosophy that drives the slant.

My only question is where the heck has "slashdot" been for the past 25 years? I got a news flash for those brainiacs...

The entire global warming circus clown shop has been funding/lobying/buffaloing the deepest recesses of our culture since they formed "green-piece" and founded "erf day".
How's yer A/C werkin lately? :)

Right on 12... it isn't science, it's funding.

What you have to look for are scientists that have secure jobs, tenure in the field, and no ax to grind other than pure science.

Then it is really easy to see that this is a politically driven subject that merits nothing more than mention in The Onion. :p

To side track this thread a bit, Algore was looking for a cause to hang his hat on and he found it.

My bet is that he could no more spell, let alone understand the concept of "long term climate change and the historical record in fossil ice" without a spell checker and 3 aids to explain the big words to him, yet he did tell us the price of milk in 2004. :}

The media has had a lot to do with this also... they love drama, and what is more dramatic than "life on earth will end if we don't change our ways"?

Nothing to do with science, just hype... look for Algore in 2008. :p

Quote for the moment:

"I regard consensus science as an extremely pernicious development that ought to be stopped cold in its tracks. Historically, the claim of consensus has been the first refuge of scoundrels; it is a way to avoid debate by claiming that the matter is already settled. Whenever you hear the consensus of scientists agrees on something or other, reach for your wallet, because you're being had. Let's be clear: the work of science has nothing whatever to do with consensus. Consensus is the business of politics...In addition, let me remind you that the track record of the consensus is nothing to be proud of."

Speakin of links... Did anyone else catch Rush Limbaugh today regarding global warming being treated as a religion of the left?
He read an in-depth article from Micheal Crichton that was very enlightening... So enlightening, I had to re-listen once I got home. It's heavy, man.

I know better tho,man.. It's not mankind causing global warming man... It's those pesky aliens!! :)

Sorry to hear 12'r. I just checked them and you have to cut and paste the first one in the address bar but all of them seem to be up and working. OOPs now I see what you are talking about. I'll try to repost. Cut and paste into the address bar. It came up that way.

I love actually using facts to dispell myths. And if there could be a more misleading title to a thread, I haven't seen it. I was abducted by aleins just last night. They are real smart dudes. :}
