Crime doesn't pay. I just hope that there is no retaliation against any other hostages that the pirates have!

I think the answer to that one is to move a bunch of war ships into the area and make it clear that, if one hair is disturbed on the head of one hostage, there will be dead Somalian pirates littering the beachs of their homeland.

The Mogadishu debacle has emboldened the Somalis for years and we are way past due for taking them down a few pegs, anyway.

My first reaction was that they probably would execute some other hostages as a way to show the world (mostly the U.S.) that saving the captain would have a steep price. But then I remembered that their primary motive is to get money - pure and simple. If they kill hostages in return for what happened today, I think it might prompt countries to stop viewing this piracy thing as a big nuisance (which is how I think it's generally perceived), and decide to escalate the situation - perhaps even consider a ground attack in some form or fashion.

I know one thing, I'll bet most U.S.-flagged ships will be left alone as they sail through that area.

The price of messing with US ships, and particularly SEALS, has been established.

I saw that there are just too many ships that can be hijacked and too many pirates hanging around on motherships for anyone to be able to protect the package ships. I think they should create a safe shipping zone and any ship or boat thats not a registered ship that goes into the zone be given the deep six. A zone about 2 miles wide should work and the pirates would have no reason to go there. Make it a no mans land except its on water. The pirates would soon learn that if they wonder into the zone that they will be sank with no excuses. Let them roam around the other 99% of open water.

Re: Score one for the USA Navy Seals

The true beauty of this all is the SEAL team. Chances are we will never learn their names (and for securitys sake I hope no news (FOX) organization releases them). We will never see their faces. We will never be able to thank them in person.
But that is okay by a SEAL member. They don't need the thanks. They don't need our respectful admiration. Through their own dedication, teamwork, and selflessness... they do not need a pat on the back nor a high five.
It's almost to bad we all haven't had some aspect of SEAL training. Not so much the training of a lethal skill, but a training of comradere and respect.
Hats off to you guys... really.

I've been wanting a bumpersticker that says "Sully is my Co-pilot" for a while (for Chelsey Sullenberger). I guess now I want 1 that says "Sully is my pilot, Phillips is my Co-pilot, and the US Navy SEALS are my pit team... So get the
hell out of my way" :) :) :)

Excellent idea.

Thankful there are guys like these on the teams. Got to meet several of these guys while in the Navy, very down to earth selfless guys. thanks for all they do and way to go! Glad we are not going to stand by and negotiate with these pirates. That would certainly only empower them. I am glad the Capt. survived and was not harmed but, had he been killed the US Govt would have still sent a clear message to the pirates. Don't mess with US vessels or our citizens...

The skill and courage of our Navy Seals impresses me but does not surprise me. What surprises me is that someone higher up had enough of a spine to order what had to be done.

The American public will tolerate a lot more when they understand the Hows, When's , whats, and whys of a situation.
What the American Public really hates is coverups and lies. They can stand mistakes or things that don't go as planned. The American Public isn't stupid, and shouldn't be treated as if we were.

Gentleman..... the action is exactly what I expected. I know the Seals did their job as required. I feel for them knowing what they are going through today. It is part of the job that people train for but hope they never have to put into action.

I am glad they got Cpt Phillips back (VT needs ever person we have ;) ) I hope we do not have to resort to that action again.
