Hello again. I am disassembling the powerhead in my 1981 Evinrude 115 because one of the cylinders (number 2) is scored and I'm trying to figure out why this happened. The rings are in tact (not broken) which leads me to believe that there was either debris in the cylinder or that it was lacking fuel. I am guessing that it was debris because the crankshaft seal ring between the number 2 cylinder and the main bearing is broken and could explain the debris. Since the scoring goes the entire length of the sleeve, I believe that the debris was under the rings which makes sense because that's where the crankshaft seal ring is located.

My main question is whether there is anything that would cause a single cylinder in this engine to not get fuel?? It makes sense that the seal ring broke and let debris into the crankcase for the number 2 cylinder which scored the sleeve but just to cover all bases, is it possible for only that cylinder to not get fuel??

Another thing I noticed is that the number 4 cylinder has a broken ring. The sleeve is in excellent condition, but there is about .75" of the lower ring that is missing.

Any suggestions on how this may have happened or advice on how to proceed is greatly apreciated.

Thank you.
