yup, a buddy of mine has a junk (well kinda) boat, and he let me have the controls! But, will they work with engine pictured?:

Now then, he said i could have them, but I have to take the entire boat, or find someone to buy it.

so, heres the boat and engine:

The guy that gave it to him said it runs. but Jack (my friend) dosnt want to try to get it started- he just want it gone.

So, I could use the trailer. and the engine 'runs' I know it turns by hand, but thats all.

you think the engine is worth removing and keeping/trying to sell?

what would it be worth?
and what would I do with the boat?

but the most important question. will the merc controls work with my johnson?

Well I don't know if the merc controls will work with the johnson, I do believe the tradeoff of trying it is worth it. If the boat is junk, it can be scrapped. If the engine runs, great. If not, it can be parted. Sounds like a win win regardless of what happens with the controls. Heck, you could use the controls with the merc if it runs well enough.

As far as what the engine might be worth, I don't know, depends on the year it is and whether it runs. The boat, as mentioned, can be recycled, check out craigs list, people post often that they will remove junk for free, and often specifically boats.

I think the ends may be different between the johnson and mercury controls. But I'm not positive. Other than that, I believe they should work, so you may be able to change out the plugs to get it to work. Again I'm not positive though.

If you're looking to sell the engine and/or controls, I may be interrested. Drope me a PM and let me know what you would want for it, and what state you are in (might come pick it up instead of shipping it if you're close enough for that to be cheaper).

Edit: I just realized that the registration was showing in the pic... looks like you're in california, which is too far to drive so it would have to be shipped if I bought it from you. Shipping inside the contenential 48 states for an outboard typically runs around $100, so I'll have to factor that in on the price. Keep in mind that you may be able to find someone local that will pay more for it since they won't have to pay for shipping. But if you can't, let me know what you want for it and I'll see if I can find it in my budget.

I would sell it, and I would ship it. but it would have to be enough to pay for the disposal of the boat.

anywho- back to the controls.

merc throttle:

the ends both use the little eye lid/hook/hole thing. the throttle may be a bit difficult, but the shifter looks easy.

worse case senario, Im making brackets. and buying a welder, metal, a bender, vise.... etc

But im sure theres a way

I know i need cables, or, should get cables. the ones with the controler function freeley but still

I'm not sure how much it costs there in CA to have a boat scrapped. Your environmental laws are much stricter than here in TN. Here we could get a boat hauled off and scrapped for $50 or less. But odds are it would just get dumped in an abandoned rock quarry, whereas there I'm sure they probably tear it down and recycle everything that can be.

It is a good looking boat though from the pics, I can't imagine that you would have much difficulty finding someone willing to take it for themselves. Of course it's hard to tell from the pics, if the deck, stringers and transom are rotten then maybe not.

Looks like a late 70's and they will not work on the OMC. If you were closer to OK I would trade you out. You need a red plug OMC remote.

glastron t or v 156

same boat as in another post running now.
called my outboard died.
the hull is prone to transom/stringer rot.
if repaired properly they can be as good as any small lake fishing trihull.
beat the transom and listen for the sound, weigh the boat against factory specs, and feel the floor. if its good. id just fix it and sell it.

cheers

Boat is sturdy as hell, floor and transom arent rotted, fiberglass is still strong. really, isnt a bad boat.

finish sucks, but boat and trailer are perfectly fine

Too bad you don't live closer to TN, I would totally take it if it was within a days driving distance.

the controls are brand specific, the cables are different, and the throw of the cable is different.

SgtMaj you better check your shipping prices, i would say close to $400 calif to tenn. i ship a lot of motors.

A bird in the hand is, well...a bird in the hand. You can always swap/horse trade for what you want if you have something to work with...like a bird.

The plug is red that comes out of the remote unit. If you take a pic of the starboard side of you motor with the cowling off if will draw arrows on it for ya. You will also need the remote conversion kit for that motor. Just an assumption that the motor is manual tilt so the you don t have to buy controls with tilt and trim switch. I have several boxes full of the controls if you have trouble finding a set. I think I have few sets of new ones as well. Check ebay. I would also convert that to an electric start while you are at it. Why not just run that Merc on you boat. If you do you need to change that power from the solenoid to the starter before it causes a fire or explosion.

I went on down to my local johnson authorised boat place today and oredered me up a conversion kit for the low low of $78

I had him look into a control for me, $202 new.

So I was thinking... if its gonna last me another 20 years, it may be worth the $202

But im gonna look in to using the merc still
