I don't believe there is a telltale with a little stream of water spraying out
like many of todays motors.
There may be a row of holes on the trailing edge of the leg water should mist out,or perhaps a tublular spout near the top of the leg.
Very carefully feel the head it should be too hot to hold your hand on but not so hot it burns you.Or squirt water on the head should not sizzle but should evaporate fairly quickly.If you question the age or condition of the impeller you should replace it.
