Scott Atwater 3.6 HP ID and Fuel Mixture

I just picked this up as part of a transaction for a 14 foot Jon Boat. The guy said it did not run, and just threw it in as part of the deal. Well, the fuel was old, and I could not read all of the instructions on the motor, but it looked like a half pint of 30 wt oil to one gallon.

So I mixed up 8 oz of 30 wt to one gallon of gas, and tried to start it. No dice. So I tore it down and on top of the engine it said to set the points to .020 gap and low and behold, this old thing started right up! The points were basically closed.

Anyway, I am curious to find out what year it may be and what the proper mixture is. Now that I know it runs, I don't want to blow the dang thing up. Heck, the impeller even works!

Here is the serial number: 30554099...

Says it is s 3.6 and runs at 4000 rpm.

Well I think you could use a modern two stroke oil, try it at 40:1 or so. They didn't have the good oils back then.

Good luck with it, a Firestone branded Scott of the same horsepower started my illness when I was twelve, as a neighbor gave me one. Ruined my mom's good rainwater in her barrel for the flowerbeds running it in there.

That's a 1955 Scott Atwater and don't run it at less than 24:1, even with modern TCW-3 oil. It should use an H10J plug gapped at .035, point gap is .020. Good luck with it...clean it up and pass it along to your kids.

Thanks for the help. I was more than surprised to see this old thing fire up on first pull once the points were set....Where do we get parts for these? I would like to get a new set of points...
