There is a 10hp Scott Atwater available locally.

It's $300 and I like the motor. I'm curious if these are show pieces at this point or can parts be found?

It looks like it's an early 50s model maybe.

I have a 12 footer that I could use the motor on, and the price is pretty reasonable if the thing runs. The ad does not specify the condition so who knows.

The ad has been removed. Did you buy it? If you did, I won't comment on the price.

Ha ha...no I didn't buy it. I'm assuming that's a good thing based on your comment:D

So I assume they are good for bolting to the rafters and looking at primarily?

I think I will stick to OMCs for my 50s vintage kicker motor needs...since parts are easily found.

Actually, I would like to find a Scott Atwater 10hp for sale. I walked away from a nice one last week, the guy wanted about $140 for it. I hope your guy got his $300, but that is way too much in my book. Call me cheap.

too much for that motor. scotts were good, solid workhorses...parts can be a problem with some models.

My local dealer bought out a Scott Dealer that went out of business. He now sells Scott parts all over the world. I'd bet he could fix any model.

My "twins" are 1954 7.5 HP Bail-a-Matics. Got them at a garage sale a year ago for $12.50 each. One was a box of parts, but they were all there!

^^ Wow Jim those things are pristine. Nice work, and a great find for $12.50 each:D

Do you run the motors in the water? I'm curious how the bailing works exactly.

Re: Scott Atwater Bail-a-Matic 10hp

They have been run, but I don't have the bailer puck so I can't attest to how they work. I believe aftermarket pucks are available. Regardless, my boat doesn't leak so nothing for them to pick up.

I believe they connect to a vacuum line on the suction side of the water pump. Thus, the water goes into the normal cooling system.

I offered the guy $25 for the intact motor, and he accepted it with the provision that I take the parts as well. He bought the second motor just for one part - to replace a broken tiller handle. I fixed the handle and rerassembled the second motor. The powerhead was fine and I was only missing a few nuts and bolts.

BTW, both motors were repainted with Rustoleum and the new decals are homemade copies.

Imhave some knowledge of Scott-McCulloughs, 7.5's. They have two impellers, one for cooling powerhead, the other for bail-a-matic [I didn' know it was called a puck] they are stacked . Motor con be run with only the powerhead one, if the top bailer one is left in place so as to prevent loss of coolant through bailer. I have a "puck" and a leaky boat so may get to use it soon!

You actually don't need the puck. It is just a screened weight to lay in the bilge. A plain hose will also work. Just don't let it suck up old bait and cigarette butts.

Jim S,
I have a spare puck from a 61 Scott/McCullough if you want it you just need to pay shipping, PM me.
I have a 1961 Elgin = Scott/McCullough I removed the impeller from the Bail-O-matic and plugged
the hole to the puck tube and my Elgin 40 runs like a top.

Hey Jim,

Here's my '56 7.5 I picked up. It's got compression and will fire. I picked up some parts from the Scott Guy for the cowl, fuel pump and water pump. What I need is a throttle ring/label. Were your's in good shape or did your local dealer provide one for you?
