I found a cool classic boat I'm looking to buy.......I think its a 1962 fiberglass runabout with a 40 horse Scott. The motor is in great shape and has a cool 1950's look to it. I was gonna buy the boat for my 50 horse Johnson but he says all the motor needs is a fuels pump. I dont know anything about this brand and I have a hunch parts are hard to find and expensive.....any thoughts???

Re: Scott motor question....

I am always very suspicious of "all it needs" diagnoses from people who didn't fix it. No way would I take that at face value.

Scotts were excellent outboards and can be fixed if you can track down needed parts. Our listing of outboard salvage yards can probably supply anything you really need.

If you like the boat, buy it. Do not pay extra for the outboard. Tell him if he wants to fix it or toss it in free that's okay. If he fixes it then negotiate a price you like.
