scrap value

I have a 16' aluminum Grumman pro fisherman damaged by falling tree. does the boat and trailer have a scrap value?

If the boat is cut into pieces the boat is worth 30-45 cents per pound, most scrap facilities will not take a complete boat.

The trailer if totaled would also need to be cut up in pieces under 4 feet. Most scrap yards when buying steel will not pay if you have under 1000 pounds of material.

Also, some scrapyards want you to strip all of the non aluminum parts off the boat.
There are some scrapyards that will accept any amount of scrap metal.

Aluminum boats are not aluminum cans, and the price is a lot lower.

It is called Aluminum Breakage Scrap

Current US prices are between 2 cents and 19 cents per pound, with the average price being paid last week being 7 cents per pound.

So a 400 pound boat with most of the other materials removed will get you $28.

A steel trailer will get you about the same as the steel price is in the toilet.

Never had to cut up any scrap we hauled in, not even 20' sections of radio tower.

If it would be repairable or useable at all, it would be better to sell it or give it to someone that could use it in a private pond.

Craig's list has numerous listings of things like free boat, or trailer for sale cheap, comes with a boat. type things. Gets really irrational when you see one at a marine servicing facility, up on blocks, 40 years old and 35' long for free........"was running when I parked it".
