Screen intake 91 Honda bf8

Hi out there! Got a new to me 91 Honda bf8am longshaft for my sailboat, thermostat was way clogged after apparent salt water usage. I can't see the intake screen from the outside, but I guess it's missing. Wonder if anyone can help with the placement/or installation procedure of the little screen, looks like it's cylindrical on the parts blowup. They show 2 pieces- screen and a washer, but I can't seem to figure out how they would go in or out, or what they should look like installed properly. Hoping someone out there can shine the light here
