Screw holes

I just purchased a used late model, deep-V aluminum boat. It has a aluminum/wood laminated transom. The transom has three screws holding the speedo water pick-up on, two for the transducer, two for the thermo-sensor, etc. I plan to remove all this crap and re-rig. Is there a good waterproof fix to plug the holes, (I plan on re-painting the transom) or is just best to use a marine grade sealant and put the screws back?

Re: Screw holes

JD...I've used MarineTex for repairs like you mentioned, especially if you're painting over. Best for a clean like-new look.

Re: Screw holes

Thanks for the reply MrBill. One more question, should you slightly dimple around the hole and fill with the material or just pack the hole full?

A 2nd on the Marine Tex - pack her full then dip a finger in water to smooth it over.

Re: Screw holes

I got some of the Marine Tex and packed it in with the chuck end of a drill bit that was slightly smaller than the holes which took 2 applications. I've already primed and painted, looks good as new.<br />Thanks again for the tip!
