'Noob alert' {please contain any laughter to a low roar{if deserved...lol}
Definitely a f/glassing newbie...heres the abridged version...
Finished the transom & stringers & put down the new deck, taped seams{poly/1708}...rain was comming, worried about remaining bare wood {had only enough resin at the time to pretreat the seams and a too small tarp} so I used up some porch/floor paint to help ward off h2o intrusion...now ready with more poly/mat/cloth to finish the job...Question time {finally I know :redface: sorry} will the new resin adhere to the paint{enamel}? figured on a quick rough sanding{60grit} first before lay-up...or do I hang my head in shame and commit to a complete removal of all paint?

One more question if you can wipe away the tears of laughter long enough...I used epoxy/1708 for the stringers & transom, but the ol wallet has been crying for some mercy, so thats why the poly/mat/cloth on the deck, anyways will two layers of each mat&cloth you think bring the level up fairly close to that of the one layer of 1708 I seamed with{first time using seperate cloth & mat...=:confused:}. Just want to be sure I have enough materials on hand before beginning....Thanks for any help and be glad I didn't give the long version{lol}.

It will adhere but you wont get any penetration.
A cover would have been cheaper faster and better.

Thanks, yeah should of asked beforehand, as long as it adheres I'll still have my protection right? Bottom side was resined{epoxy} if that helps or matters in this case.

Re: Screwed up or not?

All the paint needs to be removed before any resin can be applied.

Its best not to mix and match the two types of resin, it doesn't make a big difference in which one you use, but you should stick to one or the other.

The problem is the polyester isn't going to bond all that well to the epoxy, so it will be a weak link. If you didn't use it over any epoxy then you're OK.
