While working on the boat this weekend I notice 4 screws stick out the bottom of it. They're about 1/2" long and look like deck screws or something like that. I don't want to open a can of worms here . Should I just silicone around them or cut them off and silicone over the spots. They may have been there for years, I don't know. I think I should leave them in place though. thanks Russ

Those are so your boat can get traction on the ice in the winter, the Canadians do it all the time... screws in their boots and screws through the bottom of their boat hulls too.

That's the old deck screw through the bottom of the hull trick. It happens . . . Can you tell us a bit of history on the boat?

It is going to need to get fixed. Can you determine where the screws are originating from inside the hull and what they are securing?

I haven't looked yet on the inside but it looks like three are on the starboard side under the rear jump seat next to the engine cover. In that area. The other one is up front on the starboard side like under the open bow seat area. I just bought this boat in Nov. from a man that had it for 20 years.

We need to see pictures of this to fully understand what you are dealing with. The hull should not have any screws sticking out of it, good news is this shouldn't be too hard to fix. How did this get overlooked when you purchased the boat? Could have bargained for a better price maybe.

As jigngrub says that's a feature for traction on the slippery ice.

How it got missed at purchase time is also what I can't understand. The holes can be fixed, hopefully there wan not something more major that was "missed" at purchase time.

Well not knowing how long they are, if they are long enough, you could just bend them around in to a hook shape and put some bait on them and catch fish while trolling the water... The lastest in high tech fishing options... :fish2:

Re: Screws sticking out the bottom

Usually, folks who drive deck screws thru the bottom of a boat end up putting some of them into the trailer bunks. . . of course you can't really see them, and they only become apparent when you try to launch the boat . . .

to the OP, I am wondering if you have a bunk trailer and if you have taken the boat off the trailer yet, etc.?
