I would hazard a guess to say that if the memory cards are the same size (not memory space), then they should be compatible. Your manual should tell you the type of card SD, MMC, mini, etc.

Re: sd memory cards?????

As you may know, you can buy whatever you need these days on ebay for very good prices,it is not worth any hassle that may arise from swapping, forgetting etc when each device can have its own memory chip.
There will be some issues regarding capacity between different hardware, the older cameras might be able to physically use a certain chip in its slots but the firmware will not recognize the amount of memory on it and if it cannot format the chip it is useless to the camera even though it will fit the slot.
The newer devices generally will be more compatable but it can be an issue on the older stuff.Ron G

yep........opened it in the truck and made my buddy drive while i played with the gps------when i finally realized how to change "pages" i told him to slow down cause we didnt need to be going 84.3mph-------yep he didnt see that coming.........hes as computer illiterate as i am.

i have another question....

last night i went to the lowrance.com and tried to get the "free enhanced lake maps". my memory card shows that they are on there, but when i put the 2 gb memory card (says kodak by the way) in it doesnt react to the buttons correctly and keeps going back to the begining screen.

if i remove the card everything is fine---with card i cant even read my current location:mad:.

im not sure what im doing wrong. any suggestions?.....and yes i made sure all the pics were erased from the card.

thanks for the help guys!!

... hmm,

things i would check. is the SD card just SD or does it say SDHC (secure digital high capacity)? some devices cant read the newer sdhc cards. Also check your version of firmware on your GPS. Many manfactures provide firmware upgrades to solve bug issues. Lastly, did your GPS come with software? thats what you have to use to transfer the data to an SD card while its in the GPS so the correct format is used.

good luck

The card may need to be reformatted for use in the GPS.

That was my first thought too. Does the memory card say SD or SDHC?

As far as sharing a card,,,I would not recommend it, buy at least one for all devices so you don't have to keep switching back and forth. It would be a hassle to have to keep downloading images, and re-uploading maps and such.

The cards are just too inexpensive now to not have one for every device.

If I were me, which I am normally not, I would take the GPS to my local radio shack and ask them to help me find the proper memory card. (We have a pretty good radio shack) They might even be able to help answer some of your other questions too.

My Lowrance GPS that I just got (I know it's a different brand).

I meant different model not different brand . You may be able to format the SD card though your computer if you have the adapter to hook your SD card into your computer.

Re: sd memory cards?????

How do you reformat?

All I'm using is a card reader/writer.....when the card shows I have the maps on it, I put it in the H2O and it acts like it won't come on and the buttons won't respond.

When I remove the card it works as before.

I'm trying to download the free enhanced lake maps from Lowrance.com with no success.

Thanks for any help.

Using a card reader on your laptop or home PC you should see the SD card as another drive...
Open My computer, find the SD card, right click and it should have a format option...

The basic unit has the U.S highway routing built in...as well as the major cities, world wide.

To do what you want, you need to get your hands on either the NauticPath card, or the Hot Spots (regional) card. The NauticPath covers all of the U.S nautical coastline (and river inlets)...and that is what I use for my boating. The Hot Spots cards cover the inland bodies of water...and is focused on fishing. The free enhanced lake mapping is downloaded onto the Hot Spots card...and 'kicks' in when you are in that particular lake location.

If you go the updated card route (and I highly recommend this), you should copy the original onto a blank card...and put the original in a safe place!

Hope this makes some sort of sense....

i have no idea what im doing wrong.

i reformatted and tried it empty still no functions and it restarts every min or so..........tried reformatting and reloading maps same thing.

i have to admit i am not computer savvy ..........my kids are pretty sharp but they gave up helping me yesterday.

when i save the lake files it saves as a AT5 file is this what is wrong?

i looked at the faqs on lowrance.com and it says the unit only reads the FAT format (or whatever it is)....thats how it was formatted and thats how i reformatted it.

i hate to have to do it but i might have to suck it up and buy a $120 map..........dont want to...........may have to.

i even tried the "hard" and "soft" reset that the faqs recommended.

any ideas???!!....and thanx for all the help!!!

p.s. the reason i am trying to use a card from my camera is because i have a few extras so i thought i could get off cheaper. it only says "SD 2GB Kodak Memory Card"

If it is like my gps system ie uses navionics or similar style maps the only way to make it work is to buy the map card. with the newer systems at least navionics gold maps it warns you not to try to copy it is protected and will damage the card (void warranty). hope this helps

okay so which is the best deal?-----navionics, freedom maps, map create,etc....?

i doubt ill use it in more than 4-5 local lakes----all of which i found on the free maps offered by lowrance................i bet yall are all thinkin you can hear me squeeking when i walk:eek::D:D:D:.........im not usually this cheap but i have other fishing stuff i was gonna get with the rest of my gift cards.

i have also downloaded the GDM6 and EasyGPS and cant get them to use/open the free mpas i found either.

the thing that has me puzzled is that even when i erased and reformatted the card (completely empty) it did the same thing as when i had maps on it...........i thought i could at least drive around out in the pasture and mark some way points and save the info on the card--then put it on my computer......you know to get the hang of using it-----but it wont even let me open the menu while the sd card is in it.

the wife keeps telling me someone on here is going to tell me they had the same prob and that the card isnt compatible.......it is for a kodak digital cam, but it fits perfect:confused::confused:

Trust me...if you see the details on the water navigation cards (buoys, depth, sunken objects, channels, etc.), you won't mind the investment.

I also have the detailed road maps (Freedom Maps)...and I can pinpoint every McDonalds in the U.S.A.!

You CAN try formatting a blank card, using Windows...and then downloading the enhanced lakes that you need. But I would guess that your download will only work, if installed when you are actually at that particular lake (and your GPS spots you there). Worth a try!

In response to the last poster (sorry, I can't see your name while in the reply screen)...Lowrance doesn't seem to protect their cards from backup. I have mine copied to a DVD, and I seem to remember that Lowrance even suggested that I make a backup.
