Re: sea drive conversion!???

It can be done. I have a 1987 2.7L sea drive bracket with a 1996 Evinrude 225 ocean pro mounted to it. They removed the original motor trim and tilt & motor mount. They then used the original sea drive controls.

Most mech won't mess with it. Find an OMC mech that worked on the old sea drives and he may be able to help.

BTW, consider removing the existing sea drive bracket and mounting an armstrong bracket in its place. single application is about $1000. you can mount it yourself and it should cover the hole left by the sea drive. mount the "new" $1000 motor and replace the controls (if necessary).

You may have about $3000 in it when finished.

Something to think about.

OK I'll give you the scoop. Go to ebay and search for outboard bracket. Bought one from Marine Parts Wharehouse for $695 plus shipping. Nice guys to deal with. Now, I looked at one locally and really liked it. To make a long story short, blew one of my 120hp engines, sold them and bought an '88 3.0l Seadrive for $cheap with a new powerhead, got another '84 2.6l Seadrive for real $cheap with 400 original hours on it. After serious thought about Seadrive parts availabilty, I decided to buy an '88 J225 (3 year old powerhead). Since the main part of the '88 Seadrive will work with the Johnny, I went the bracket route. Your engine $1000, bracket about $800, sounds like the way to go huh?
