Serial 46x14126 1964 model
Having fun stripped down to where engine and transmission meet. Engine now upside down soaking transmission in liquid degreaser along with 8 screw in bolts. Since transmission is too stiff to effect shifting need to get inside. The 8 screw in bolts appear to be original and of course are frozen.I entertain little hope of freeing them. Will never get enough torgue with screw driver to free and they will break. I can try heat but must wait until I can work outdoors as have a wife! Do machine shops have skills to remove?? Any suggestions?? I have the where with all to pay, but after too many times sticking with projects I have learned to abort when success is unlikely. If there were bolts I would be more optimistic.

If you can get a straight shot at the screws you can try an impact driver (a hand held driver that applys torque to turn out,or in, the screw when you rap the top of the driver with a hammer)the last one I bought was about $10-12.And if they break off, any machine shop should be able to get them out.Good luck
OMC

Hi Benz
Don,t get in a big hurry with this. These $5. motors deserve a little time. If you will post you e-mail address I will try to send you some pictures that might help you. It sounds to me like your trying to remove the powerhead from the exhaust housing. As ONE MORE CAST suggests an impact driver is a handy tool. Also carefully applyed heat will help. Did you drain the lower unit? Did the oil look ok? I'll see if I can get my scanner cranked up.

drained lower unit and contents best described as sludge,no water evident any would have evapored over the years in storage.Back on stuck screws have freed 3 of the eight with muscle and lubricant and am taking my time with the other five. Have tried to find tool you mentioned but no success. Sears suposed to have one. Thanks for you help. Really need a good repair manual for this 64 chrysler/wards engine. Recommendation and souce would be great. Online sources seem out off print, and i never know what I will get. Have three other old engines all running and in use 2hp,5hp and 9.5 all johnson evenrude.
