fired up motor for 1st time, seemed to run ok, but would not idle, had to keep throttle up a little. when i looked in tank of water i was using for test there was blacks spots floating on the surface, obviously oil but is there anything i can do. What is the gap for the plugs on this and what is the best type of plugs to use? are these motors easy to flood, after it ran for about 5-7 minutes i could not get it started again? help and thanks

Before we can really answer your questions, we need the model number of your outboard. You can find it, usually, near the transom clamp assembly. On some, you'll find it in another place. It will be a combination of letters and numbers.

With that information in hand, we'll know who built the outboard and be able to help you with your questions.

Oh, as far as the black spots on the water go, don't worry about them. They're oil from the fuel:eek:il mix. Just ignore that.

My dad had one of these Sea King motors from the 1960's.
It would act like that..... wouldn't start,, would run on one cylinder,,
he fought with it for a good while. Then put a fuel pump diaphram in it and it was cured.

Seems like they called for either 32:1 or 40:1 (4 oz per gallon)
