Sea King 9hp (clinton) my latest problem

well this is a 78-79? clinton made sea king ---K900 6106A / 1420554 / XTV S2309A.

it started slipping out of forward gear and quickly lost it alltogether, so i opened the lower unit and and found the worn parts, no i did not replace them and yes i know it is the obvious best choice if i can locate any. But, i managed to to machine the worn parts back to a point where i felt like it should interlock and stay in gear just fine at least for a temporary fix. so put it back together and it worked a little at first then went completley again.
so i take it apart expecting to find it as bad or worse than before, but there doesnt seem to really be much wear. I get the feeling i might have lost a washer or spacer somewhere along the way but cannot find it and never saw one to start with, So the main thing i want to ask is if anyone has a diagram of the lower unit on this model or one even close so i can rule out if i lost something or not. and if this happens not to be the problem does anone have an idea what could be causing it to slip out of gear at this point.

well just to update i believe the part called a" clutch dog"?(the half circle that slides the clutch back and forth between forward and reverse) was what started the problem. anyway now its broken, so ive been searching all the threads and suprised to see noboby has asked about finding a way to just have the gear stuck in forward..

this is frowned upon im sure, but it could be a while before before i can find this part, so i have to ask couldnt i somehow just run the motor in forward all the time? there doesnt seem to be much pressure at all trying to push it out of gear if i just hold the clutch ring in place . but not sure what will happen actually under load with the motor running. any advise? im sure someone has done this, even if it turned out bad

My uncle welded up the diffrential on his old Oldsmobile or Pontiac coupe drag car way back in the day for what he called a "Arkansas positrack"

well tried a couple of things to keep the sliding collar (this is the clutch?) against the forward gear and it diddnt hold with the motor running.. any ideas of something anyone has had work would be great. and now im looking for parts and can find some for other models of sea kings but not the k900 so far. so im wondering if anyone might know if other models would have lower unit gears that would be compatable, say if i came across a j900, k700, etc....or just wishfull thinking but any brands like evinrude have parts that would work,?, i doubt it but figure id ask.. let me know of any thoughts on it..

post some picture of what you have so we can maybe ID something that will help, othe wise Ebay it for parts because so very few were made and escaped the junk yard your just not going to find lower unit parts, its hard to find lower parts for anything old these days.

You could call Dave's boats parts I posted in the Tanaka thread, he has tons of small stuff....

id like to get some pics but no way to do it at the moment. so, ive been checking ebay and anywhere else i can think of, i see alot of 5 and 7.5 HP lower units, and some gears just by themselves usually for these same models, but they dont look even similar really. ill just keep looking.... i tried to weld the clutch to the forward gear and about ruined the gear but managed to get it back so it will work i dont want to try that again.... seems like it would be much easier to weld the ring in place to the prop shaft, but then the whole gear assembly would be stuck in the lower unit, and my luck id find the parts at a great price right after i do it.
