I just got an old 7.5HP Sea King I'm going to use as a kicker on my 15' Fiberform. It was "running when parked" a few years ago so the fuel system needs an O/H but I expected that. I found a couple of places to get parts so no problems there. Right now the only questions I have are the oil mix ratio and anything to watch out for on these motors. The decal on the shroud says to mix 3oz of SAE 30 to each gallon of gas. I divided 128 by 3 on the calculator and got 42.6... so I figure I'll be safe using an air cooled type oil at 40 to 1. Also I understand that I have to test run it wet because of the water cooled exaust. Anything else to watch out for?

Re: Sea King/Clinton 7.5

My after market manual (1989) says 48:1 on motors 7.20 cu in and larger, your is in that group. It also states a quality outboard 2 stroke oil.
No reason why a quality 2 stroke chain saw oil wouldn't work as the powerhead is air cooled.
