Hi All-- I have a 6hp. sea king, 1967 Chrysler made motor that I recently got, the previous owner had it for 3 years and never started it, not sure how long before he got it since it had run.Must have been my lucky day, fresh gas a little sea foam and about 10 pulls and it was running ! My questions are 1-what gear lube for the lower unit?, 2-what gas/oil ratio ?, 3- The motor does put out water and it doesn't seem real hot, but I am not sure it is pumping as much as it should.Since it is old and has been idle I worry about the impeller. How do you tell if you are getting as much water flow as you should ?
Thanks for any and all help

Re: sea king gear lube and impeller

Your lucky it started. Hopefully it will continue to operate right.
Typically motors like that will run but gradually operation will get worse.
Until a fuel system check up is necessary.
I just started my 65 Merc. 500 after an extended lay off ;ran beautiful now hoping it will continue to operate.
Use regular outboard gear lube.Fuel mix is 24:1.
You should change the impeller if there is any doubt as to age or effectivness.Impeller will probably be hard to find.
If you choose to run it be very aware of the motors tone.Any indication
of the classic overheat slowdown shut her down.
