the whole throttle assembly was loose as it goes under the flywheel and attached to the drive shaft and i located a brass screw that seems to tighten it, this screw has a hole in the center and a spring behind it. Sure wish i had a manual then i might know what i was looking at, but i dont have the $ at the moment,.
Anyway if i tighten the screw then the throttle moves as it should. I get the feeling this screw affects more than just tightning the assembly. So i want to remove the flywheel so i can figure out whats going on there, but how do i turn the nut at the top without the whole thing turning down to the prop.
Another reason i want to get the flywheel off is that before i bought the motor muddobbers made a nest under it, so now as it runs dust and dirt come out and get into the air intake gunking up the carb. this is the 3rd time ive had to clean the carb from this, i can see dirt all inside of the flywheel just cant get to it.

any suggestions are appreicated

You gotta put the wrench on the flywheel nut, and spank it with a board while you try to hold some resistance on the flywheel, or find some other way to resist it turning. Then you back that nut to the top of the crank threads till it's flush. Then, I like to pad the top of the crank with a thin piece of wood or a thin magazine, and and wrap the end of the crank with a hammer while prying up on the flywheel. It'll pop off the tapered section of crank, and you can get the dirt dobber's nest out of there, and you will also probably be able to see what the dealio is with that loose throttle business.

Does anyone know if the gear case gasket should have sealant on it.

I don't think it matters. I never use sealant on the lower unit gaskets on my Eska 7.5 hp, and I've never had a leak. I did use sealant on the gaskets when I replaced the powerhead, although it was probably a dumber place for me to use it, as I worried that it might squeeze out and restrict the water flow to the underside of the engine block.
