Hello all... new to this forum. I came across this 15hp sea king motor it is a 1982. Runs Great except the pull start broke. I took it apart all the springs are still good, the spool was just seized up in the bracket. It wouldn't spin. So I solved that problem but now the manual says I need a special tool to rewind the spring to load it so to speak. they call it tool #TR2985. Can I do this without this tool?? or where would I find such a thing?? Thanks for any help you can send my way....Regards...BI

Not directly acquainted with that beast but I believe the tool is the same for the 9.9 I'm sure you can fashion a tool from a bolt the right size you may have to add washers so it tightens before it locks the pin in place. The tool is required to remove the pin and I assume wind up the spring and allow you to reinsert the pin.

I think You can fashion some sort of device you can tighten down with the bolt and use to turn it.Perhaps a star washer under the device would help to keep it from slipping and unscrewing the bolt.Or perhaps it could be made to grip the spool.
