Re: sea king?

serial number = 85x translate to a 1958. Model number is GG8963a mean it's built by GALE aka "OMC" which is a close replica of johnson's and evinrudes. I believe you could find a manual on this site.

Re: sea king?

There is a publication called "Old Outboard Motor" put out by Clymer that provides coverage for motors below 30 hp prior to 1969. According to the copy that I have, a Sea King with model #GG8963a is a 1958 model that is the exact equivalent to a Gale model #5S14B. Sea King motors were manufactured for Montgomery Ward & Company by Gale Products Division, Outboard Marine Corporation and West Bend Outboard Corporation. This publication is available through Amazon.com and E-Bay for around $20.
