I'm considering purchasing an older Sea Nymph aluminum boat. It's 13'-6" long and has a 60" +/- beam. It currently has a 7.5 Honda 4 stroke long shaft motor but I have 25hp Johnson I'd like to put on it. The the wood part of the transon only goes about half way down the transom. If this boat won't handle the 25 I'll probably pass. I have digital photos but don't know how to attach them.

Also, is there any way to determine the age of a boat like this?

Yes, that looks almost exactly like it, the 1462 except the one I'm looking at is OLD. The hull shape and seat layout is exactly the same except the transom on this one doesn't have the knee braces that connect to the floor and there's a "rib" riveted on the inside of the transom halfway down going from one side to the other. The wood only extends down to this rib. I think this is going to be the HP limiting factor.

Also, on the outside of the hull it has Sea Nymph emblems made of plastic rather than decals. This may help age the boat.

Looking closer at the photo in the link, the 2004 boats have the exact same rib running across the transom, the only difference is the knee braces below it and in the corners. These might be hard to duplicate.

I take it there's no rating plate in the boat? I knew about this model because I considered buying one a couple years ago and knew it was similar sized to the one you're looking at. I'm not familiar with the construction on the older versions, maybe someone else can help? Good luck.

Im surprised that little boat uses a long shaft.
Be that as it may, my info on similar boats is max hp is 15.

I have an old alumnium boat just like that. I don't know either the manufacturer or the year. No matter - - with mine the plywood was also only half way down the inside of the transom and rotten at that when I got it. I replaced the wood with 3/4" ply and also put a full size 3/4" ply on the outside of the transom and through bolted them together with ss bolts & lock nuts. I would not hesitate to put a 25 hp on it but think it would be a bit overpowered.

When the previous owner replaced the wood in the transom he used what looks like a treated 2" x 10". He didn't cut it down to the original transom height, it just goes straight across. This gives a 20" transom that let him use the long shaft motor. I'd have to cut it down to run my short shaft 25hp.
