Sea-Nymph transom replacement

Hello: I am trying to replace a rotten transom in a 1987 Sea-Nymph Fish&Ski; model # SS-175. I am wondering how to get at the transom thru-bolts that are hidden inside the aft port and starboard flotation compartments.<br /> I started trying to remove the splash-pan and go in from the top but it is thru-bolted to plywood underlayment.<br /> Decided to try removing the front panels from the <br />flotation compartments from inside the boat. This will mean removing some substantial rivets. One of these panels is hinged (port side) and houses the oil injection tank for the outboard. Then it should be a matter of digging out the flotation material and, finally, removing the remaining transom bolts.<br /> Is anyone out there familiar with this repair on this particular boat?<br /> Thank you

All I can tell you is,start digging.After repairing the transom,replace the foam.

I have the same model boat, an 84. It also needs replacement of the transom. I will not be able to start my repair for 6 to 9 months.<br />I would like to hear how your repair goes and any problems/shorcuts etc. you find. <br /><br />Thanks. Gary

I replaced the transom in a Sea Nymph a couple years ago. Did the whole boat for that matter.<br /><br /> http://mypeoplepc.com/members/djohns19/djohns19/ <br /><br />In your case, you have two choices.<br /><br />1. You have to remove the inner panels for access. If the floor is rotten, you'll have to do it anyway.<br /><br />2. You can grind off the bolt heads and replace with lags.<br /><br />#1 is preferable.<br /><br />I made my transom by laminating four pieces of 1/2" plywood together using waterproof wood glue and Stainless screws. I then saturated the whole thing in f-glass resin.<br /><br />If you can, try to get as much of the old transom out in one piece.
