I am looking for a good used boat for fishing-I am looking at a 1984 Sea Ox 23' CC with an 84 Johnson 175 and trailer. Boat is in good shape, motor also. I am concerned about Sea Ox no longer being in production though. Price is $5,000. Anybody have any comments on either the boat or the price? I also saw a 1979 23'Aquasport family fisher (cuddy) with a 175 Merc and trailer, also good condition, for $4,500. Which would you buy and why?

Re: sea ox worth the price?

I wouldn't be worried about the fact that Sea Ox boats are no loner made. I read recently that the last few years of production for those boats changed hands quite a bit and the quality went to hell. Although, the year you are considering I believe they were still made quite solidly. I am looking at a 23' cuddy cabin with a rebuilt 87 225. Asking price is 8500. So I think you're doing pretty well. I think when you buy a boat that age with an old motor you are pretty much just getting a hull. If you get a few years out of the engine, you're lucky. But, generally I think you have to just plan on repowering the boat within a few years.
