Re: Sea Ray 200 overnighter

I have a 1991 Sea Ray 200 BR. The overnighter is the same boat only with a cuddy up front. I have the sink and transom shower along with the 260hp 5.7 Alpha Drive. I also had to get a new floor, stringers and transom! Just bought the boat last year and have about $10,000 invested with purcahse and paying someone to replace all wood. Interior and gelcoat is perfect. What do you want to know? The origianl wood was not covered in glass very well at all and was Home Depot junk plywood. I now have pressure treated.

My sea ray is 1991 20ft overnighter, has 350hrs on the boat, excellent condition. The only part of the floor I replaced was the piece over the gas tank, plywood and coated it with fiberglass resin. How much for a new floor my floor seems strong no real soft spots that I can feel yet.

oh and I paid 9900.00 for it, sounds like yours was less expensive but had to do alot of work. Love the boat so far, but the wood floor does concern me, wish it was fiberglass oh well.

Sea Ray is know for using cheap plywood for stringers and bulkheads. When they glass these items, it is usually incomplete. They also poke many holes for wiring & tubes to pass thru. This makes a mess of that plywood. Check WWW.yachtsurvey.com for reports.

Sounds like you're lucky in the floor dept. Keep it dry. My floor and stringers on the port side were MULCH. When they were out the bottom six inches of the transom were discovered to be bad so I had the guy do it all. In my ski locker I could push a screwdriver through the walls. The panel bet. the fuel tank and motor was also very soft. Dealer did just about insist on taking the boat back but I figured if I went with new wood and I got a 3 year warranty on the work at least I'd know what I had under me! Boat was 7500(got 500 from dealer toward repairs) and about 2500 for new wood. That said, I get compliments on the boat about how new it looks. Sea Ray did a nice exterior glass job - no hairline cracks. The boat rides well also.

I have a 1991 200 OV LTD. Don't quite know what difference "LTD" makes, but I do know that in 1991 they did not count the swim step as Length over all. The boat is actually 21' 4."
I paid $13,000 for mine last year which has turned into a money PIT!! Cosmetically the boat is flawless (Other than a few Trailer Roller marks on the bottom), but I cannot get her to run correctly..
She is actually headed for the shop this evening!
Hope you all are having better luck than I am...
The way things are going; I am not even going to attempt to begin checking the floor boards. They seem pretty solid and I do know that last year was her first winter spent (Covered) outdoors.
Enjoy!!
MadSeaRay

Re: Sea Ray 200 overnighter

I have a 1992 Overnighter 200, with inline four. We have enjoyed our Sea ray very much, there are some issues I have to deal with. As others have mentioned, I would have rather have a fiberglass deck rather than plywood. I have serveral softspots which will need my attention soon. My attention is now with power steering, it has gradually degraded to the poing that it is non existant. I'm in the process of replacing the power steering pump. I have to replace the drive belt as I did not ensure the the pulleys were properly alligned (rookie mistake) and it was damaged. Much to my chagrin I see that it will not be as easy as I first thought. Has any one changed a power steering belt? Is there is a trick which will allow me to not take off the crank pulley?
