I have a 2000 Glastron GX 185...Have not been happy with the ride on one of the Finger Lakes in upstate New York. I am thinking of changing to a new Sea Ray 205...Can I expect a better ride?
Thanks.

Ayuh,......

A 20'er will ride Better than an 18'er,.....
But,.....
I've found that getting Over 22' gives a Much Better ride than Anything smaller.......

Also remember it's got a lot to do with hull design rather than just length. Make sure you take a test ride on a weekend, busiest time on the Finger Lakes, prior to buying anything. Which one of the lakes do you boat? I usually go to Canandaigua lake but also do Conesus and Honeoye.

Senior Chief,
We have a cabin on Keuka Lake. As you know the lake can be narrow in spots and the "boat chop" on weekends can make for a rough ride. I was thinking that the 205 had a deeper V than the 185 which seems to bounce along with spirit on those busy weekends.
Thanks,
Ed

Re: Sea Ray 205

Just took possession of a 2008 sea ray 205 sport, we opted for the 5.0 L MPI (260 hp) and every option you can get (sat radio, upgraded stereo, bimini top, etc etc...see the sea ray site for all options)

I love it! I mean, we only did the sea test for a while, but the boat handled incredible for choppy waters in the LI sound. Everything about the boat was perfect, every detail. Very well made, solid and ergonomically perfect. Cut through the wave and turned on a dime.

Will not be boating until mid-March, but we have sat in the boat, and I have gone through every nook and cranny continually. Perfect.

Good luck!

Re: Sea Ray 205

I had heard that boats with a a little wider beam would ride smoother compared to similar length boats with a norrower beam. For this reason, I chose the Chaparral SSi 210 over the Sea Ray Sport 205, after a sea trial of both. The Chaparral was also less expensive and slightly a better build - in my opinion.

Hey Bill,

How's those boating sounds going? Lips must be numb by now.
