I am totally new to the boat world. Just relocated to Florida. Have seen many bowriders but have fallen in love with the sea ray 210 for it's features. I have found a 1999 with a new crate engine for 15,000.00 and was wondering if it was worth it. The boat was salt water used, fair condition cosmetically, and the guy selling it I felt had integrity. Any opinions/recommendations on price/ other options, etc. for an someone whom is just beginning the search for a starter boat?

Re: Sea Ray 210

reciept for engine, installation, was outdrive changed or is it original. last service if original. salt water in Fl, 15,000 is high. the new engine is a plus. as follow the following.

Buying a boat

1st you need to decide what you want to use it for, fishing, cruising, or water sports.

2nd how many people adults, children you want on board of the average outing.

3rd outboard, inboard-outboard, or inboard power plant.

4th Budget, what you want to pay, and what you are willing to pay, when you find
Exactly what you want.

You can hire a marine surveyor, to inspect the boat, or you can do it yourself.

You are mainly looking for soft spots in the deck, transom, cracks, all signs of a rotten, under frame.

The motor should be clean, no spots where the paint is discolored, or pealing from heat, having run hot. Compression should be atleast 100psi, and within 10% of each other,
Spark on all cylinders, good pee stream, check lower unit for water in oil.

The overall condition of the boat will tell you a lot, as to how it has been maintained.

A 30 year old boat motor combo, may be in better condition, than a 3 year old.

In MHO 15 is high. I bought my 99 190 for 15 last year with only 46 hours and was owned by a older couple. Fresh water only with 220HP 5.0:cool:

That is very high. I bought an 06 195 Sport last July new. I only payed $23,500 sticker for boat and Trailer. This is with a good group of options. Taxes/title/and a vew extra add ons I reguested to be installed before pick up brought it up to teh $25K Mark.

If only mine would drepeciate $8K in 8 years I will be having a party (on the boat ofcourse)

Maybe its just me...I would be concerned with a 1999 needing a new motor and how the rest of the boat faired. What's the power pack? 4.3 or 5.0 carb? MPI? w/ alpha 1 lower drive?

Sorry for the delay in getting back to your input. I've been out of town and this is the first "forum" I've ever joined. Had to poke around to figure out how to read your response-Uhg... learning curve.

The engine is a 5.0 MPI (?) from what I recall. The salesman said it was a fresh crate block so it was obvious that the other had been trashed. It was mated to an Alpha 1. This used dealer buys all of his inventory from Marine Max, rebuilds them and flips them.

Mostly what I am seeking the smallest bowrider with a head on it around 15k (being new to the boat world, I want to enter slowly from a financial standpoint, with an educated mindset and not emotionally. I liked the design and layout of the 210 in general, but am open to alternative that would better serve us.

Maybe the Sea Ray 210 is right for you, but don't get hung up on THAT one! It's hard to price because of the new engine - but I also wonder what else is on the way to being shot if the engine is!

That boat would hav to be mint condition to fetch that kind of price! It gets closer to realisic IF it is indeed the MPI engine but still not overpowered for that boat - I wonder whay they didn't put a 5.7L in when re-powering?

ANyways, 10 year old med. sized bowrider salt water used $15K is steep.

also look at DeckBoats, they have the same features as a bowrider, just more room.

Re: Sea Ray 210

Craigslist has thousands of boats on the market. $15K for that boat is a joke!
