I've been looking online at the new Sea Ray 21 SPX. A couple of reviews are available, but no real in depth 'Consumer Reports' type evaluation. The modular seating looks functional, but maybe not comfortable? The walk-through to the swim platform seems like a great idea. Anyone seen one of these up-close and have some thoughts?

The background: currently own a SR 175 Sport. Happy with it, but only holds 7, and I have 'need another 2 feet' syndrome. It gets crowded with 5 people, 2 wakeboards, a raft, etc. Want something that can hold at least 9 so we can ask along another family. Also, playing around with wakeboards and want a tower to store the boards. Looking for another basic family lake boat (very shallow lakes in the area). Happy with Sea Ray, but willing to look elsewhere as well.

Thanks!

Seen the SPX (budget) line at boat shows. Not impressed with them for what they are costing. You can get a much better boat with
better overall quality for the same or less money. No cockpit room at all, as the sun pad takes up almost all the cockpit space.
You would be better off looking at Monterey 204FS, Monterey 196Montura, Chaparral 21H2O or FourWinns H200/H210.
Monterey wil be your best layout, value and build quality in this class of boat for your money. Hands down.

Don't forget Bryant as a high quality competitor, or for a few bucks more maybe a Cobalt 210.

If I were dealing with a shallow lakes almost exclusively, I'd at least consider a jet. Not a huge fan necessarily as a primary boat but do like the social area layout due to the flatter engines.
