I was hoping to obtain some advice from some more experienced boater's in this forum. I have not been boating since my younger days with the family boat(s). I am in the market for a 22ft.ish BR and have pretty much narrowed my search to the Sea Ray 220 Select (the Regal turned my head but dealers a million miles away and I like the re-sale of the Ray). I have never negotiated a boat deal before and understand the markup from invoice to MSRP to be about 30-35% minimum. I would Imagine getting out the door paying 18% above invoice would probably be a deal. Then throw in Freight/prep. Any advice/experience in this arena would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for the thread KCook. Many were talking about 25% off MSRP, Wow they must be some negotiators!! Guess I need to put on my game face.

The dealer has a higher margin in options than the bare boat. So the more options you load the boat up with, the more negotiating room he has. However, boat sales are seasonal and we have now slipped past the season for low prices. A few lines are already sold out for '05. This may seriously impact your bargaining position. I would suggest you try to deal with some other dealers (not the Sea Ray guy) at the same time. Even if you are not serious about anything but SR, this will give you a check on how fair your price is.

Kelly
