Like to upgrade and wandering if quiet ride is really what is claimed. Haven't had the chance to try one yet.

sea ray 250 and 270 slx. Sorry! Just like it says, suppose to be lower noise levels from engine, wind, rattles etc.

I'm going to say that's more marketing than reality. In most any "open" boats, when you're screamin' along at 40-45 knots in the big Pacific or your favorite lake and the friends/family's smiling, whootin' and yelling "faster, faster" whether some test gauge says it's 64 db or 69 db at the helm, who cares, punch it and "go faster".

Yes you can reduce noise levels in a boat by various means. Sea Ray states a few that can affect that, like laminate design changes to dampen vibration. They also ad a few like better fit and finish which is what everyone says. I don't know if their system works but with attention to the acoustics in a boat being built you can reduce engine and hull noise significantly. Just like riding in a Bentley instead of a Yugo. One is quieter because someone decided to spend the time making it so.

I does quiet things down

The results of Quiet Ride are significant. Measuring decibels (dB) in 14 specific areas aboard a Quiet Ride-equipped 250 SLX?, Sea Ray recorded an average 6.8 dB reduction in sound throughout the boat.* This represents an overall noise reduction of 25 to 50 percent. In certain areas of the cockpit, Quiet Ride reduced noise by more than 10 dB. To put these measurements in perspective, a decrease of 10 dB equals a sound being twice as low. Vibration was also greatly decreased, which means a more enjoyable and smoother ride

At what speed was the boat doing when they took these measurements? Was it at tickover in the dock or WOT in the middle of the lake. Was the sound system with the sub-woofer switched off and the wife and kids liberally covered in duck tape to silence them. It's like Harley Davidson bringing out a quiet ride bike. Yeah, sure at 100mph, you cannot hear the bike at all...only the wind! Guess it's the same with a boat.
I read an article about this in one of the boat mags and yes they claim all sorts because of the new board and panels they are suing and how they are using more rubber gaskets everywhere to dampen squeaks. Sea Ray also said they are developing their own engine bay fan as the other makes are too noisy!

Sounds like Buick's marketing a few years ago. Funny thing is I ended up with a Buick truck based SUV and it is quiet. They even went so far as to talk about quiet ride tires which is where they lost me. I agree with rallyart.

Tires are one of the biggest generators of noise in a modern vehicle! Ride around in a truck with oversized mudder tires, at highway speed, and you will know what I mean.

If the Sea Ray was a closed boat, then I can accept the quiet ride technology WILL make it quieter inside BUT the Sea Ray is an open bow rider for the most part and as such there are far more external noises that will drown out any quietening technology achieves. Using Rallyarts analogy, the Yugo SEDAN would more likely be quieter than a Bentley COVERTIBLE with the top down.

currently have sea ray 240 sundeck with 350 mag. At 3500 rpm engine noise is probably like most other boats. But sit up front in bow and it' a very nice quiet ride with minimum engine noise. If quiet ride can achieve this level in the rest of the boat it would be something to think about.

My BMW convertible is quieter with the top down than many cars that aren't convertibles... likely including Yugo's... Bentley?.... can't say too ugly and WAY WAY too expensive for me..

point? even in an open boat there are LOTS of things that could be done to reduce noise such as reducing turbulence... In the beamer I can have a normal conversation with someone at 80 mph as long as there aren't other vehicles beside me... the engineers made the car VERY good at limiting it's own noise and keeping it's own noise out of the cockpit but it can't do anything about another car 3 feet to the side... as for kids yelling... with a quieter boat they don't need to yell as loud.... I call it the cafeteria effect... put 6 people in a room eating and the volume will be low.... put 60 people in 10 rooms and the volume will be low but remove the dividing walls so those 60 people can start to hear each other and within 5-10 minutes the sound will become deafening... people get WAY too loud when there is background noise.
