I'm in the market for a decent, afforable bowrider. I came across a nice Sea Sprite 175 with OMC Cobra I/O.

I can't find an information on this manufacturer online, and a search of iBoats didn't reveal much either.

It seems to be in great shape, although in MN the lakes are still frozen, so its too early to put it in the water.

Any information would be helpful!

Thanks!

Re: Sea Sprites Boats?

Do you know what year the boat is because OMC had some problems with the fuel injection system on some of the ealier models, but we ran an 18ft. bowrider with a 175OMC Cobra for 1100 hours without a problem

There should be plenty of info on OMC Cobra drives in the inboard section here. Haven't heard of your hull.

Re: Sea Sprites Boats?

Hmmm... Sea Sprite looks like it was made by United Marines Corp who then looks like merged/bought out by Sea Sport. Don't know if that helps at all...

http://www.seasportboats.com/

Unfortunately this website says nothing about the Sea Sprite...but maybe you can call or email them.

**Most of this information was gained through google searches and my not be 100% correct...

JustMrWill

Thanks! Does anyone have any experience with these boats? I don't have a problem with them not being manufactured anymore, but would like some input on what people thought of their construction/quality.

Thanks again!

I have one. I picked it up last year. I love it. It is a 1974 Sea Sprite. It is their Sea Raider 15 foot Bow Rider model. Mine has a 1974 Mercury 65 HP Outboard on it.

Here's a pic:

Not sure what year yours is. I have done some digging on the company on and off over the last year. --edit-- I just read that yours is an '86. I'll leave the post for others' curiosity.

The company was based out of Monmouth IL for a while and then Crescent City IL, I belive that was the order, I may have it flip flopped.

I bought a sales brochure for the 1976 model year off of eBay recently and can check that for more info if it'll help you out.

Though I am no expert. My Sea Sprite seems well constructed, solid, and looks nice.

Like I read here all the time, it really depends on how the boat was treated before you got it. My previous owner seems to have really loved this boat (as I do now) and treated it VERY well.

Sea Sprite made a fair boat. Not a Cadillac, but not a piece of junk either.

On a Scale of 1-10 (1 being a bayliner, 10 being a Cobalt)(for that timeframe, I would guess a 6 )

It's true, the better the care, the better the boat.

Re: Sea Sprites Boats?

We have a 1969 Sea Sprite 15' trihull and we love it! Bought it last spring (for cheap) and skied all summer. Our boat is very spartan but well made. It must be fairly light because a 60 hp Evinrude will pull me up on one ski! I would not be afraid to buy another. Good luck, CT

Captain Tuna,

I'd be interested to see pictures of your boat if you have some that you could post or email.

Thanks,
Linc
