I took my current project out for the first time today.
1990 Tracker 17' pro Deep Vee. It did not idle too well, it smoked a lot at idle.
Johnson 40 hp w oil inject. I was on the lake for about three hours. I found about 1/2 gal of water in her later. The max RPM was about 3800. She stumbles a little when going from 1200 to 2000 RPM. There does not seem to be a problem at high speed. The idle is a little rough even after adjustment. I did not find anywhere to attach the vac. gage. Other than that, she's OK.

What do you think? I rebuilt the carbs last week.
The stearing is very stiff, I pulled and lubed the cable. the cable is not the problem. Also, the lower zerk fitting on the stearing stem seems to be plugged. I will try a heat gun on Monday. She spent her like playing in salt water.

Re: Sea Trial results

what year, model is the 40hp. well your rpms, should be 5500 atleast. sounds like may running on one cylinder. have check spark and compression. did you do all this when cleaning the carbs http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=244013? have you done a link n sinc?

remove steering cable from tilt tube. and clean. very common for there to be rust build up in there. the grease fitting on the transom mount do not lube the cable. they lube the tilt joint. salt water motors require more maintenance, than a fresh water. does the motor turn easily when steering cable is disconnected?
