Sea water pump maintainence

Just wondering what thoughts are on sea water pump preventative repair. I have a '97 VP Sx that has about 200 hours on a rebuild that was done right before I bought the boat. I have never done anything with the pump. The temp is always around 170 or so on the gauge. I have no reason to believe that there is anything wrong with it but Im thinking of maybe taking it apart just to check or put in a new impeller might be a good idea. Any thoughts ?

I have been told to replace them every other year, if you know the impeller is over two years old I would replace it. We bought the 04 Glastron in my signature this summer and the original owner had never replaced it however and it didn't look too bad when I did.

I'll never let it go that long again though, if it comes apart the pieces can get lodged in the cooling system. Get a genuine Volvo kit from a dealer, its about $45 for the impeller and seal.

Just replace it. Its a piece of cake on a Volvo.

On Volvo pumps, every other year is a good rule of thumb for replacing the impeller and checking the housing.
