I have a 1995 maxum with a 4.3 liter alpha one drive. I got the boat from my brother in law. He parked it 2 years ago and said it ran perfect. I was recently told that I should change out the sea water pump before trying to start it. Is this necessary or should I just try and start it? If I do have to change it is this something I can do myself? thanks shawn

shawn, i'm no expert, i think as long as you have it on the muffs with the water on, you can start it. i would definately want to know if it will run before i dropped the lower unit. use new gas ditch the old stuff. good in the lawn mower.

Do what tashasdaddy said and if it seems to be ok then,,,,,,,,,I would recommend a full tune-up. Plugs, wires, cap, rotor, fuel filter, belts, oil and filter, raw water pump, clean flame arrestor, and change outdrive gear lube ghange. Pull the drive for water pump and gear lube service. While your there check all rubber boots, water inlet hose, grease u-joints, check gimble bearing, and engine alignment.
