Being a total noob to the water, i wouldn't want to go 30-40 miles out i'd stick to 5 or less. If i can't see the shore i wouldn't feel safe. I think i'm gonna look for a 19' or a 22' but it'll be awhile i'm gonna have to buy a truck to pull it too, cause i drive a maxima right now and it can only tow 1000 pounds and i think a 22 would be tipping that scale am i wrong? If so here's another question whats less than 1000lbs and sea worthy, anything?

The "under 1000 lbs" is the catch here, remembering that includes the trailer, too. An inflatable is about the only one fitting this description.

Get a cheap jon boat. How far out are you talking? I routinely take my jon boat out in the flats to about 15 ft deep. I go about a mile or two from land and never feel worried about anything except getting struck by lightning in a storm. It really depends on where you go. I go to an area that is protected by reefs that block the big waves. A 16ft jon with a 25hp is perfect for the flats. I have a 14ft with a 15hp and I can run 25mph in 2 to 3 ft seas.
