My guess is that it has something to do with simply not trusting a chemical bond to hold back the forces created from the engine. I won't lie, I thought about that too, when I did my transom, which is one reason I put 1 piece of ply back in. Were I to do it again, I would do the whole thing in seacast though. It's really a lot stronger than I would have ever thought.
