Hi guys on my Almarine seafire the boat has been dry stored for some time and i would like to flush the tank out. There is no way of taking the tank out so i was just going to flush it through but was not sure what to use?
Wouldnt any household cleaner and water do the job?
Cheers

Re: Seafire tank flush?

Any idea if the tank held a quantity of gas that evaporated? If so that's going to be a tough one. I would stick to something like acetone. However, acetone will eat many rubber and plastic products, so you would have to remove the fuel gauge sending unit and the fuel pickup just to be on the safe side. You could also try just putting in E10 (do you have that in the UK?) and let it sit for several days to start loosening things up, and finish with acetone.

Just be very careful to keep sparks away from gasoline fumes.

I think the tank has just sat with no fuel in for a few years. Its a metal tank with no plastic parts just complete metal. Would it be safe to flush it with cola? Or water with detergent in it?

It would be easier to use a solvent that you won't have to remove entirely (i.e. completely dry the tank). Have you taken a look inside to see how much gunk is in there?
