Re: seagull"s"

there are many owners in the us/canada .the only website that any good is www.saving-old-seagulls.co.uk they can advise and supply any parts but the members are a tight clique so dont suggest anything sensible/modern or they throw you off ..you need to register to see all the photos posted ...

Personally ( I own two ) I think they are noisy slow dangerous things as there is no FNR so difficult to use in a modern conjested seaway

Re: seagull"s"

i just picked up my second one, and it does have f/n.....no r tho! i need a carb part for it, i did check the sos site, but the price of the part i need is 4 times what i payed for the motor, and even more than the motor is worth. was hoping someone on this side of the pond had a stockpile of old gulls!

lots of people on the SOS on your side of the pond ..just put a request in the HELP section ...what part do you want I am in uk and may have one in the shed ..many parts on UK e bay www.ebay.co.uk and on the SOS site it lists all e bay seagull parts on e bay at this time ....buying another motor and breaking it is often the best way ...if its a carb you want let me know I have mine running on pit bike carbs $30 ....ignition easy make it electronic ...let me know .....

Re: seagull"s"

thanks fucawi! the motor is a silver century clutch drive long shaft, the part i need is the carb body, the threads are stripped where the "banjo" bolt holds the side mounted float bowl to the carb. ( pardon the terms i used to describe the part......new to gulls!)
what kind of / bore pit bike carbs will work? id like to keep it original, but if mods are the only option i can go that way.

Re: seagull"s"

Well you can go with the original but I think you will do better to try to find bits for your carb to keep it original and run day to day with the modern carb .......~When you buy the carb you must get the one with the 18mm throttle slide . There are also 15mm they will run with both. Here in uk we have 22mm compression fittings for water pipes ..these are perfect fro making and adaptor as the spigot on your Silver Century is 22mm...I think thats 7/8 in

Photos show the two slides 15 and 22mm /the two carbs / installation on the seagull/ will try and find you the advertiser on e bay but these things are common throughout the world ..needle is adjustable up and down.

Re: seagull"s"

thanks again fucawi, what machine do those carbs in the pics come off of??
i will check the ebay listing also. ( cant quite tell from the pics, but is the piece that bolts to the carb, something that is home made..ie soldered to the other brass fittings?)

Re: seagull"s"

chop a 22mm straight coupler in half and solder to a plate (use a flame not an iron) with a 22mm hole in it and two holes for the mounting bolts......carb incorperates a O ring so no need for a gasket.

You will have to look on e bay but I have purchased these in Austalia and UK so must be world wide available.

Re: seagull"s"

put Pit Bike Carb into american e bay ..two photos below the one with the outlet from the carb off centre marked 19mm is not the one the other is correct BUT check with the supplier the diameter of the throttle slide ..should be 18 mm not 15 mm
The e bay number is 220662453087 just put it in the search box

Re: seagull"s"

no as you are running 25 :1 fuel they are fine but the ones I suggested have an adjustable needle so you can tune the mixture ..The idle screw is not used as the throttle is about 1/3 open at a seagull idle speed.,. I can only guarantee the ones shown work and look the part also.

Re: seagull"s"

a bit of an update.......have found 3 gulls for $100, two of which look like they have the same carb set up ( just from pics), the two have the large exhaust tube, large gear case. what are the chances the carb body has the right bore? .....i would like to keep the motor original if possible!

I kinda like the Gulls. I had one once, but it was missing the transome clamp. It ran like a clock though

Re: seagull"s"

you need to know the numbers and ask on SOS ...there computerised serial number locator is working again and is another way to find out ...sounds like the 4:1 gearbox with the 5 blade fan ....very slow expect 5 mph you need the 2,5 :1 gearbox for any speed ,,dont mention my name they threw me off for fitting those nice pit bike carbs .....funny lot

Re: seagull"s"

kicked you out of the forum?......thought it was all about "saving old seagulls"? isnt fitting a different carb.....saving a seagull??? if none of the carbs work from the 3 i pick up tomorrow, the only way to save the one i want to run...will be the mod that worked for you.

thanks again fucawi

No way! They kicked you off the forum for that? Well I have seen some Nazism in forums in the past. Some bloody mods are just plain bloody Nazi's. LOL Your input will be appreciated here though. ;)

Re: seagull"s"

Well the moderator/site administrator blew a gasket recently and trashed all the server,,has taken them 4 weeks to get it up again ....I also suggested they log all the serial numbers put into the seagull finder to access how many exist ....Terrible idea and I posted how to post a photogaraph ...the admin bloke did not like that ....
