hello,got my motor to fire and run ,but the mixture is far too rich (sooty spark plugs ) and it needs the choke on to run ,but wont go any where near full revs .
if ive taken out the lean /rich needle ( dial on the front ),any ideas on how to set up prior to starting and can anyone tell me what the correct spark plugs are..thanks again

using a 50-1 mix

If it is too rich, it is because you have the choke out. Choking it only makes it richer.

Does your motor only have one dial on the front? If so, that is for the idle speed mixture and does not have much to do with high speed operation. The high speed jet is a fixed orfice plug in the very bottom of the carburetor, deep in the hole behind the hex drain plug. It has to be absolutely clean in order to run at anything over an idle.

Don't ignore the possibility that your motor is only running on one cylinder due to an ignition problem.
