seahorse 5.5 looses power in gear

Runs fine in neutral, but when I put in gear and rev up it bogs down. Any suggestions?

Well to start, what is the background here?\

Has the ignition been updated? If not, it most definitely needs it. Original coils will be NFG>

Has the carb been properly clean/rebuilt? Fuel lines changed?

These are just a couple of the items that need to be addressed when reviving a vintage outboard.

Ignition new, carb cleaned and fuel lines are new. Should I attempt to rebuild carb? I have never done one before, only cleaned them.
